Your confirmation above documents your damage. When you contact your insurance company, have this ready and add the following:

Your insurance policy number and company name
Date the damage occurred (exact date if known)
Whether your home is currently livable or not
Photos of all damage — exterior, interior, belongings, vehicles
Receipts or estimates for anything already repaired or replaced
A list of damaged or lost personal property with approximate values

Applying for FEMA Assistance

If you do not have insurance or your insurance doesn't cover everything, FEMA may be able to help. Register at DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. Have this confirmation plus:

Social Security number (yours or head of household)
Annual household income
Number of people living in your home
Your insurance information (FEMA covers what insurance does not)
Bank account information for direct deposit of any assistance

Asking for help is not a burden. This is exactly what the community is here for.

📋 Do these things as soon as you can

Call your insurance company — home and car. Get a claim number.
Apply for FEMA — DisasterAssistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362. Deadline is typically 60 days from the disaster declaration — do not wait.
Photograph all damage — before cleaning anything up. Every room, every item. Date-stamp if possible.
Save your Oahu Relief Hub confirmation — your submission receipt documents when you reported damage and what you needed. FEMA and insurance adjusters may ask for this.
Keep every receipt — temporary housing, food, clothing. FEMA can reimburse these.
Set up mail forwarding — USPS.com. Do this today.
Tell your employer — they may have disaster leave options.
Tell your children's school — counselors can check in on your kids during the day.

📄 Your Oahu Relief Hub request is part of your documentation

Your submission creates a timestamped record of when you reported damage and what you needed. Save your confirmation page screenshot.
For FEMA: If they ask when you first reported damage, your Oahu Relief Hub submission date is evidence. The supplies you listed document what was lost or destroyed.
For insurance: The supply categories in your request (furniture, clothing, appliances, food) directly map to personal property claims. Your adjuster may request a written damage account — your submission helps with that.
Oahu Relief Hub is a community coordination tool, not an official government program. It supplements but does not replace FEMA or insurance applications.

💚 How you might be feeling — and what is normal

Numbness right now is normal. The grief comes later — sometimes days, sometimes weeks.
Not sleeping, or sleeping too much. Not eating. Feeling scattered. All normal.
Sudden waves of sadness over specific things you lost — especially photos and keepsakes. Normal.
Your children may seem fine, then start acting differently. That's how kids process. Be patient with them and with yourself.

You are allowed to grieve this. You are allowed to be angry. You are allowed to need more than the minimum.
